GAME DEVELOPER WORKSHOP
Game Developer Workshop Level 1 is an educational, live-online coding program that will give your kids the coding knowledge, skills and confidence they need in order to thrive in today's digital world.
First in a series of online coding workshops for kids to become entrepreneurs
Date | March 8 - April 9
1 hr classes, once a week during evenings or weekends for 5 weeks
How it Works
The workshop includes live instruction from Hopscotch instructors who will guide students through building their first game using Hopscotch.
Kids will learn about design thinking by creating characters with unique personalities and stories they can bring to life on screen through animation & sound effects.
Meet with the instructor and classmates for an hour-long coding session each week.
Complete assignments between live classes each week with the help of additional instructional videos.
Work individually on their own project and get personalized help from instructors when they get stuck.
Publish a unique game and present it to friends and family at the end of the workshop.
“I owe my life to Hopscotch.
Many years ago, I found an interest in programming I had never felt before. I was told to start out with Hopscotch, so I did.
Years later, I am currently a college student at M.I.T, making professional games. I love coming back to this and seeing my old work, and how much it has changed.
Thank you so much Hopscotch. Without you, I probably wouldn’t be where I am now. I understand that the team behind this amazing app consists of not even 10 people, which I find amazing how a group of so little can make an experience so great. Thank you Hopscotch, I quite literally owe my life to you.”
Your KIDS GET INDIVIDUAL ATTENTION FROM instructors
INTERACTIVE LIVE CLASSES
Kids can follow along with the instructors and easily get help if they are stuck. Your kids will feel comfortable and confident as they progress through their game project.
SMALL CLASS GROUPS
Your kid will get plenty of attention from the instructors during class hours to progress through their game project as the workshops have a maximum of 7 kids grouped by their grade levels. For example, all kids in grade 4-5 will be in group 1 and in grade 6-8 will be in group 2.
“It was really fun to be a part of - to see everybody else’s creative process - and to have some
motivational regularly code - and to take a break from other much more dull work. My mentor
was incredibly patient and helpful - really grateful for their support throughout the programme!”
Structured and comprehensive curriculum
INDIVIDUALIZED APPROACH
The curriculum has been carefully designed to allow for individual advancement and growth in a way which is best suited just for your kids! Your kids can learn at their own pace and learning style.
HANDS-ON PROJECT FOCUSED LEARNING
During the workshop your kid will design, build and publish their own game from scratch. In addition to coding, kids will pick up valuable skills in writing, design, art, maths, science, presentation skills etc..
PROGRESS TRACKING
Your kid’s progress in understanding and applying key concepts from the class will be closely monitored by the instructor. Should your kid get stuck, the instructor will be able to offer extra help/ feedback right away.
“I felt very supported - by both my “programme buddy” and the hopscotch team - especially with
meeting deadlines when some surprises propped up, like strange bugs or some unexpected
events that limited my time for hopscotch. Every step was a little daunting, but I managed to
create and publish something I’m happy with. Spending time on my project between classes
and exams was so relieving, like entering another world. Being part of this programme ended
up coinciding with me applying to college. It helped build my confidence in myself, and my
future - and gave me something to distract myself with!”
skills and confidence to thrive in a digital world
EXCLUSIVE COMMUNITY FOR WORKSHOP GROUPS
Your kid will have access to the group’s private community via discord to show off their game, discuss course work, ask questions and get useful answers right away. We have seen our past attendees motivate, help, learn from each other and make lasting friendships.
“I loved participating in this program - it was a great experience that helped me get back into Hopscotch. I really like the helpful supportive community. Thanks for including me!”
“I think you’ve created the most incredible community ever and opened up a whole new world for so many people. I’ve always loved coding but honestly? I don’t think that it’d be my life without Hopscotch.”
GRADUATION CEREMONY AND COURSE CERTIFICATION
Kids can invite their friends and family to their graduation ceremony at the end of the workshop, where they get to present their game.
Your kid will receive a certification of completion from Hopscotch which unlocks advanced features that allows them to earn in-game currency through their game.
HOPSCOTCH PRO SUBSCRIPTION
Your kid will get their own Hopscotch Pro subscription for the duration of the workshop so he/she has unlimited access to our coding platform and unlock advanced features like
adding custom avatars, photos and drawings to their projects
intro scenes, game scoring, premium music etc..
Meet Your Instructors
yuanyuan
Yuanyuan is the smiley face behind the Hopscotch hello email. She studied computer science and art during her time at Princeton (Fun fact: she showed her works at Art Basel in Miami!). Before joining Hopscotch she was a teacher in NYC. She uses her artistic sensibilities to organize fun community events that challenge kids to code their most creative projects.
Tracey
Tracey, aka “t1,” is a Hopscotch superstar who has created groundbreaking projects totaling millions of plays over the past eight years. She’s also the brains and voice behind the videos teaching you to code in Hopscotch. When she’s not working, you can find her cooking up a secret recipe or playing her favorite movie music on the piano. Fun fact - she lives in the Southern Hemisphere, can you guess where?
“You all are amazing and everyone in the community looks up to you all as role models. They
light up whenever you like their post or thank them for something. Many of them will try to
follow in your footsteps as they grow up. If things get tough, remember all of the kids you have
impacted and changed. Try to think about them when you make a decision. I will always love
Hopscotch and the community that grew out of it. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to
be a part of this program and give feedback regarding it. You all will always have a special
place in my heart”

“I look up to you for what you’ve been able to accomplish and [for] what you’ve been able to do for my daughters and my son. I mean, thank you. Doing these games with them was thrilling to me.”
Message From Our Founder
″When I took my first computer science class in college, I realized that programming was so fun and creative, and interesting. I couldn’t believe I hadn’t found out earlier! I wanted to share my discovery with the world. I built Hopscotch for the kids like me who would love to code their own apps and software if only they knew it was possible.”
- Samantha John, Co-founder and CEO
This is why we do what we do
“...I just can’t stress enough how important Hopscotch has been for Madison. She started using Hopscotch at such an early age and I think it is the reason she loves coding so much today. When applying to college next year she plans to major in computer science. So thank you!...”
“When we have free time, the number one choice is to use Hopscotch. It motivates them to finish their other work so they can get on Hopscotch and code....This will be an app that they will remember for most of their lives...I can see some of these kids pursuing a career in computer science and looking back to this as where it all started.”
“My son feels special because you have allowed him to create something that he thought could only be created by tech-savvy adults. He is now looking at apps and seeing possibilities for himself rather than just wanting to buy them to play. As a parent, I am so proud of not only the end result of his programming but the fact that he became totally absorbed in his learning and was able to use problem-solving and creative thinking skills critical for someone to be a successful learner in the 21st century.”
